Am I eligible to receive a FREE Emergency Alert Radio?

Soon to be underway in parts of Calhoun County


Free Emergency Alert Radios will be distributed in Calhoun County's Immediate Response Zone and Pink Zone beginning January 11, 2010 through the end of April 2010. To see if you are in either the eligible pink or orange zones, view this map. These eligible zones are colored pink and orange, however the yellow area was part of Phase I. See below for more information on that area. Note that if you have already received a radio at your current address as a part of phase 1, you are not eligible to receive a radio in Phase II.

Phase I
Completed in Clay, Cleburne, Etowah, St. Clair, Talladega and the PAZ Portion of Calhoun County

Phase I was completed in March of 2009. However, residents of Phase I areas who did not receive a radio or are new to the areas, should contact their local EMA's (linked in the box to the left of this web page) in order to request a Phase I radio. Phase I included all of the counties listed above as well as the "PAZ" area of Calhoun County. What are the features of the Emergency Alert Radio?
The Emergency Alert Radio will bring you information about many types of emergencies, including severe weather, hazardous material accidents, AMBER Alerts and evacuations.

Who is sponsoring this program?
The county Emergency Management Agencies (EMAs) in partnership with DHS/FEMA have secured federal funds to make this program possible.

What is the purpose of this program?
This is a Community Safety Program. Your local EMAs understand that an emergency can strike at any time, and that early warning is often the key to protecting you and your family from disaster. With an Emergency Alert Radio in every home and business, our communities will be safer.
