From The Daily Home
Thanks to the work of local Emergency Management Agencies and coordinating programs, people living in Talladega and St. Clair counties will be able to receive free emergency alert radios early this year.
The radios will be made available to people living in the counties covered by the Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program. Though the alert radios could be used to notify people about a number of emergencies, including problems at the Anniston Army Depot, they are much more likely to warn people about impending severe weather.
That’s important in our area because this region has been historically prone to tornadoes and damaging straight-line winds.
The process is simple — residents will get a postcard in the mail, and all they need to do is fill it out and send it back to get their radios.
We encourage residents in The Daily Home coverage area to take part in the program. The more warning people have about severe weather, the better chance they have of getting to a safe place in time.
